Foray through Campania

Campania - the ager Felix of Italy

It's not just the area that featured in many popular hits, it's an area that many dream of. No matter how many negative headlines are associated with Naples - one thing remains, the beauty. You will not find Capri and Sorrento in vain or only marginally on this trip, we would rather show you the unknown side of Campania, which has not been overrun by tourists.
Just enjoy the well-known and unknown sides of a region.

Day 1: Welcome to the land of Mignons
We will meet you at the airport in Naples. You move into a 3 * hotel near Caserta in the immediate vicinity of many sights. Depending on the arrival time, ideally around noon, appropriate excursions e.g. the reggia of Caserta (optional)

Day 2: Napoli total
Naples may often be notorious, but it also offers gorgeous cultural assets. A whole day has to be planned for Naples, because its Greco-Roman “ventre”, i.e. its historical city center, laid out in a checkerboard pattern, shows it from its impressive side.
To name just a few sights that should not be missed: the Nativity Scene Street, Piazza San Domenico, the Sansevero Chapel with the magnificent statue of the veiled Christ, the magnificent Church of Gesu 'Nuovo, the beautiful majolica of Santa Chiara, the underground Naples, not to forget San Gennaro and his blood in the cathedral ... There are also literary cafés in Piazza Bellini, the restaurant where the best pizza is made and so much more. At this point you can perhaps say: Bella Napoli.

3rd day: by gladiators and other Romans
Capua and S. Maria Capua Vetere were known for holding gladiatorial fights. In 73 BC The slave revolt of Spartacus started from Capua after he broke out of a gladiator school together with 78 other gladiators. In fact, Capua was the most powerful and luxurious city in Campania and certainly one of the oldest (800 BC). Today it is worth a visit in connection with S. Maria Vetere. Be it the largest amphitheater after Rome, the so-called gladiator school, the Hadrian's Arch and not to forget the Mithraeum, a rare and probably unique place of worship as it occurs here in Capua Vetere.

4th day: Where it smokes and bubbles
Naples and Vesuvius are in a sense like Siamese twins. Actually, it is almost a must to have been on Vesuvius. The driveway is very impressive and those who want to cope with the last stretch on foot to the edge of the crater can all the better imagine what would happen if ... Even if every visitor to Naples actually drives up to Vesuvius, it is and remains fascinating even with mass tourism. After a small lunch, with
With a magnificent view halfway up the ascent to Vesuvius, we continue to Ercolano. At the foot of Vesuvius are the excavations of the city, which the volcano 79 AD. fell victim. Unlike in Pompeii, you can very well imagine life back then, because this is thanks to the good state of preservation of the buildings. Before the buildings were covered with ash, their interior was already filled, so the roofs did not collapse.
Herculaneum lay under the dense tufa mass of approx. 20 m high, sealed off from the air and thus as if preserved. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon and dinner there.

Day 5: Benevento and Montesarchio - a road brings wealth
In the morning you go on an excursion with a city tour through Benevento. Located on the Via Appia, there are not many contemporary witnesses of the ancient city, but its structure clearly shows that the poor village was once a prosperous city in Roman times. Next to the Arch of Trajan, the Church of S. Sofia, built in 760 under the Lombards and part of the world cultural heritage, we also see the Ponte Leproso, through which the city was entered. After a lunch break, head to Montesarchio, a tiny town with a large fortress. Sant’Angelo in Formis near Capua will be the last highlight of the day. It is a pre-Romanesque Benedictine abbey and contains one of the best-preserved Romanesque fresco cycles ever. After this visit you go back to the hotel, where a culinary evening menu awaits you.
Day 6: Heavenly
The next location is the area around Palinuro. But before you move into your next accommodation there in the late afternoon, we will show you two of the highlights of Campania. Ravello. Not only the panoramas make this place so worth seeing, it is also its architectural pearls. The Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone with antique Sicilian-Arabic style elements will remain unforgettable. You can find them on all brochures, but the reality is a little more beautiful than all the pictures. Then you have the opportunity to look around a little in Amalfi. In the late afternoon you will finally arrive at the Castello near Palinuro, where you will have a special kind of accommodation for two nights.

Day 7: Take a breather in the Cilento
The Cilento is now a popular travel destination, but the Cilento has still retained its beauty. Your excursion will include: Palinuro, one of the most beautiful ports in the Cilento. From here boat trip to the Cilento
Grotta Azzurra and the other grottoes, such as the Grotta degli Infreschi. Drive to Camerota. Visit to the historical center. In between, of course, a delicious fish meal by the sea.

Day 8: Animal luxury and human genius
You have seen a lot in the last few days, but that also means a lot of effort. Therefore a slower pace today. Through the hinterland you will then taste the original Mozzarella di Bufala on a buffalo farm near Paestum (together with salad etc. = lunch). You will be amazed at what can be found on such a buffalo farm! Not to mention the luxury life that these buffalo women lead.
Since we are only a stone's throw away from Paestum, you should visit this grandiose temple complex and the associated museum. To shorten the drive to the airport the next day, you will drive to the hotel in Caserta in the late afternoon, where you will also have dinner.

Day 9: Ciao, ciao and an Arrivederci
On this day it goes back to Germany from Naples. Preferably with a return flight in the late afternoon.
