Umbria - saints and stone monuments |

Umbria, the heart of Italy
Francis of Assisi and Benedict of Norcia are known to almost everyone, their birth region even less. Umbria is not just a region of the order's founders and saints, but a graceful landscape that shines with enchanting places and excellent cuisine. This area, adjacent to the Marche, Tuscany and Lazio, offers visitors a varied holiday, unless they really want to see the sea. That is the only thing that Umbria does not have. But with Lake Trasimeno it is a wonderful oasis, not far from Perugia, the lively young city with a long history. It comes as no surprise that Perugia is home to the University of Foreigners. |

In general, the Umbrian cities are always worthwhile. The most important are Spoleto, Norcia, Assisi, Orvieto, Gubbio and of course Perugia. But a lot of small places are no less recommendable - for a variety of reasons besides their beauty. |
