A house to dream in a landscape for dreaming

Boschetto sul Mare

Born of a fairy tale book - the Boschetto sul Mare

In my various texts you have already read that the landscape of the southern Marche (Le Marche), the Picen, as this part is correctly called, is characterized by hills and mountains. The case coloniche and the rusticos, the old manors, are scattered in the hills. These were the houses of the landowners who wanted to see their property, preferably from the center of the property. Their architecture is the same everywhere, on the ground floor the cattle shed, on the first floor the living rooms of the family and under the roof the pigeons lived. Many have been converted into beautiful holiday homes in the recent years. Often ultra-chic, adapted to today's requirements, but with a lot of luck you will come across a house whose furnishings reflect what it actually is: a rustico. A holiday home for travellers who love nature and freedom of movement, who can let their children play in the garden and splash around in the pool and whose four-legged family members can unleash their joy of discovery the area without a leash.

With great pleasure I can now present a rustico that fascinated me at first glance and reminded me of fairy tales.
Not far from the sea, approx. 3,5 km from the sandy beaches of Cupra Marittima, the Rustico Boschetto sul Mare is located in the middle of the green, surrounded by trees and bushes, as if you were in a completely different world, although it is only approx. 250 m to the road leading to Cupra Marittima, Paese alto Marano (ancient part of the city). If you turn off from this main road, some people might start to doubt whether their decision to book this rustico for the holidays was the right one. For everyone else who loves rural life, this is where the departure for holidays begins that doesn't have much in common with a standard vacation in standard accommodations. Even this part of the path is a little adventure, because it is more of a better, well-developed forest path that partly leads through the maquis. Then you stand in front of the rustico. An elongated building with chimneys on the roof showing that you can enjoy the pleasant warmth of an open fireplace if you don't want to turn on the heating. The covered veranda stretches almost the entire length with a large wooden bench underneath, bordered by large oleander bushes in huge cotto pots.

When you enter the house, you find yourself in a large living room with a cosy dining area, which can easily accommodate 12 people. The large, comfortable sofas with the flower patterns, the furniture in the “arte povera” style, light that floods through the patio doors and the large window, the old wooden ceiling beams, the floor made of red cotto, all of this conveys simple cosiness. In the evening, various reading and hanging lamps as well as wall lamps scatter pleasant lighting that has nothing in common with the unfortunately so popular neon tubes. A large fireplace around which the sofas are grouped gives an idea of how cosy cool days can be here with an open fire. Actually, the only thing that brings us back to the present is a large flat screen TV (satellite dish available, as well as WiFi).

A kitchen adjoins the living room. It should be noted that it is a real kitchen as you could find it everywhere until a few decades ago. A kitchen that used to be the most important place in the house. Here we do not find an ultra-modern kitchenette but a large dispenser (kitchen buffet), kitchen shelves, a real fireplace that can be used in addition to the modern stove for pizza, grilled food or simply for heating. A washing machine and of course a large refrigerator complete the furniture. In the middle of the room is a table for 6 people, which should not be missing in any kitchen. An espresso machine is also indispensable. The guest finds all kitchen inventory at his disposal.

An interesting spiral staircase in the living room leads to the first floor, where the bedrooms are. There are three bedrooms in total, each with two beds. One of them has a bunk bed in addition. The rooms are very spacious and bright. However, it is a pity that there is only one bathroom. But that should change soon, as Roberto, the owner, told me. Only three years ago he fulfilled a dream with this house and pian’piano (gradually) he would like to make various changes. One of them will be the adventurous spiral staircase, which is nice to look at, but needs to be climbed with care. To bring the suitcase upstairs, the outside staircase that can be found everywhere at the Rusticos is used, which leads up at the back of the house.
Here in the garden with its swimming pool (1.10 m deep, 4.99 m diameter), its sun loungers and the portico, which is overgrown by fragrant jasmine, it is clear to some what the words mean: silence that can be heard. At the large table under the portico, you can spend wonderful evenings with delicious food with the brick grill and even a real wood-burning stove. Then, when night falls, the night birds wake up with their calls and deepen the feeling that you are in another world, far away from stress and hectic.

Those who like to go out are not far from bars, restaurants, beach promenades, the sandy beaches of Cupra Marittima, Grottammare or San Benedetto del Tronto. Of course, day trips to the many small and large cities such as Ascoli Piceno or Fermo and not to forget, to the Monti Sibillini are easily to arrive from here.

Villa al Colle

It rarely happens that the vacation wish is fulfilled in one place.
Anyone who has read on my website has understood that we have a paradise in the brands. It is also clear that we have very nice accommodation options. Now I was lucky enough to find a holiday home for our guests that even left me speechless.

The Villa al Colle is located near Offida in the middle of the enchanting hilly landscape.
Even from the outside, the house impresses with its harmonious architecture. A beautifully landscaped garden with a swimming pool with sun loungers and parasols, a covered terrace, barbecue area - all of the finest without fancy behavior. The garden is spacious and has one of these panoramas that can simply be described as breathtaking.

If I was impressed by the outside area, the inside of the house did the same.
A very cozy living room with an open fireplace, an inviting seating area, a view of the hilly landscape and the adjoining dining room - all very stylishly furnished and with the comforting atmosphere that only houses with “character” have. I call this character when the furniture does not correspond to the currently popular style, but exudes harmony between architecture and equipment.
Then the kitchen left me speechless. A brick interior, precisely adapted, in a calm green light with dreamlike tiles. There is actually nothing that can be improved. Wonderful the opportunity to eat here, because the large dining table offers the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful facility even during meals. If you prefer it outside, the large covered portico with an expansive table is at your disposal. The ground floor is complemented by a bathroom, which is probably longer than usual because it looks so cozy and a small room that can serve well as a children's room.

A wooden staircase leads to the first floor. This is divided into two bedrooms and a smaller room with bunk beds and a surprise, and a bathroom.
The dimensions of the closet in one of the bedrooms would surely be the wish of many women. It's astonishing that it doesn't look dominant in any way, but fits perfectly, with unobtrusively decorated doors. The somewhat smaller second bedroom with a wrought iron bed and loving details is only inferior to the other in terms of cabinet size.
The highlight in the bedroom with a bunk bed is a wall unit that, when opened, reveals its contents: washing machine, dryer, everything that goes with it. This room leads to a huge terrace that corresponds to the pergola on the ground floor.
Almost all floors are made of wood, tastefully down to the smallest detail.
The whole house is bright and friendly, perfectly equipped and leaves nothing to be desired.
Up to 8 people can be accommodated, but it is ideal for a family with children or friends.

For information and bookings you can contact the owner directly (in Italian) or me.

Cherry House

Cherry House, Geranio

Absolute relax in the dreamy hills of the Piceno

The heart of the Le Marche region is the fascinating landscape between the sea and the mountains with its vineyards, sunflower fields, pastures, cornfields, orchards, and the medieval towns on the crests of the hills - in short, a sight like a postcard. In the middle of this idyll are the original Case Coloniche, the old manors. Many have been abandoned, but many are still inhabited or have been converted into beautiful holiday homes or holiday apartments. Of course, always under the strict conditions that the original structure of a house must not be changed.

One of these gems can be found near Petritoli, the Cherry House with the Geranio apartment, part of the property, which has a total of three accommodation options. This house is enchanted in a dreamlike environment with a view over the hilly landscape, which changes its appearance at any period, actually at any time of the day.
A family or a group of friends up to 6 people will find enough space on two levels, the ground floor and the 1st floor, on a living space of 135 m⊃2;.

On the ground floor there is the living room with dining area and high-quality kitchen equipment, where nothing is missing. Even a dishwasher, microwave, toaster and kettle are available for the guests.
A bedroom with a large bathroom can also be found on this floor as well as a guest toilet.
The bathroom furnishings are lavish and tiled with extravagant tiles that can only be found in Italy.
Even when it is furnished modern, preferably made of wood in warm brown, gray and beige tones as well as white, it lacks the cold atmosphere that otherwise goes with it.
Many details make the rooms a cozy living space. Light floods the rooms, there is at least one window in every room and what could be nicer than being woken up in the morning by warm rays of the sun.
Directly in front of the living room is the terrace and the small garden belonging to the house, which is another 100 m⊃2;. The terrace under the portico is ideal to take your meals there, just to sit down to enjoy the surroundings or whatever it takes to make your holiday perfect. This cozy place is complemented by a comfortable barbecue as well as a relaxation area with sofas.

On the first floor, which can be reached via an extravagant constructed, free-floating staircase made of wood and iron, guests have two more bedrooms with a shared bathroom. Interesting to know that there are no usual wardrobes in the bedrooms. Rather, the visitor will find plenty of storage space on open shelves. Nobody has to bring their own bed linen or towels; everything is already available here.

In the house, air conditioning is part of the equipment, but it is usually not necessary to use it. The massive brick walls keep the house cool inside in summer and heat is stored in winter. The pellet stove is used for the cold months. Even in the cooler transition months, nobody has to freeze here, because not only the stove provides warmth, the gas heating also ensures pleasant temperatures. Nowadays, accommodation without Wi-Fi is almost unthinkable, so it is also available here in every room.

The apartment also has a separate storage room, which is only accessible to the guests of the Geranio. From washing machine to garden tools, barbecue, garbage cans, drying racks and laundry detergents, you will find everything you need in a house.

The slightly higher situated pool, less than 30 m away from the Geranio, can normally be used from May to the end of September, depending on the weather, it may also be possible to bathe into October. The pool is divided into a paddling pool for the little ones and a part for swimmers. There are four sun loungers and a parasol available for each of the apartments, which are identified by name. In addition, in the warm months, an area covered with reeds offers the opportunity to retreat to the shade.

Due to the location only approx. 20 km from the sea and approx. 40 km from the heart of the Monti Sibillini, everyone is spoiled for choice. Even more extensive and difficult is the choice of which of the beautiful towns to visit, which winery, which shoe manufacturer, olive oil producer, etc. is worth to be visited, not to mention the many other manufacturers of typical products, simply Made in Le Marche. And especially in the most wonderful part of this unforgettable piece of earth, the Piceno, the south of the country.
